<p>This request is for a PG winching comp planned for De Aar in November.<br />
The organizers intend to have a competition where the pilots get winch launched. And from there it is either Open XC. Or Open XC along some direction.<br />
Idea is that the scoring code determines when the pilot has launched.<br />
And if he is still airborne after 4 hours, then cut his track log at that point. And score him.<br />
A working solution is required in November.<br />
Before I start hacking around in the TP code,http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpstp, would FS be able to provide this function by then?

This is just a new way of limiting an elapsed time task. Normal way is to set close for task (or tps) at a given time of the day.

You need to set it relative to the pilot’s start-time.

Would it be ok to use the last time a pilot leave the (first) turnpoint as start-time?

The task definition would then be either “Elapsed time” or “Open distance”.

The addition will simply be a field for spesifying max elapsed task time.

The difference from what you’re asking is that we do not attempt to find out when the pilot leaves the ground. So the pilot is free to start the task at any time once of the ground (just like any ordinary elapsed time task).

In the test version of FS 1.2.13 ( http://fs.fai.org/forum/topic/fs-1213 ) there is an option in the task window to set “max time en-route from first crossing of a turnpoint”.

It should be used carefully and (probably) not with Race tasks. It is well suited for open distance tasks and possibly also with elapsed time tasks.

One good situation to use it would be as described over by ulf.
Set a circle covering the towing field, let the pilots be towed and once they’ve drifted out of the circle the first time their clock starts counting down.
