Description
I have more explain ation of my problem on the forum, as yet no replies
I have found a problem when setting long goal lines. I often use “infinite” goal lines when setting tasks. This allows pilots to keep going on the good days but still leaving a realistic challenge for most pilots. The first issue I found was FS would not let me set a goal line longer than the last leg, no big deal as a line that long is not usually necessary. There was no issue or difference to “Race Tracker” for pilots that crossed the goal line but there is for pilots that landed short. I found that as I increased the length of the goal line the distance flown by pilots that landed short decreased. On the test I have done so far a pilot that landed 3.5 km short on a 42.3 km task is shown as only flying 7km when the goal line is 35km, this distance increases as I decrease the length of the goal line. In this particular case the landing positson was quite close to coarse line. Race Tracked does have a problem with infinite goal lines as it calculates the distance short of goal as being from landing position to the goal centre. If a pilot landed just short of the goal line but several KM from the goal centre I would have to calculated the distance manually. I do not understand what FS is doing. Am I doing something wrong or does FS have a problem with long goal lines. (ihave also tried it in 1.2.7)
I have included the print out from both RACE and FS (Jon Durand is not in FS as he flew the coarse and landed t goal but had no tracklog)

Sorry for having stayed out of the loop for some weeks, will look at this now.

RAS: if you could add zip the fsdb file, tp file and the task folder with the tracklogs and attach it to this ticket it would help me find out what is happening. I will set up a test comp now but it is easier with the actual comp where the weird stuff happends.

OK, big nasty error in calc. of pilots landing btw. last tp before goal line and the goal line. For goal lines that are only 400m or less long it does not make much difference (worst case would be that one get 400m less distance) but the longer the line the worse it get. So for FS 1.2.8: DO NOT USE goal line > 400m.

Fixed in FS 1.2.9 (which will be out in a few days I hope - need to test some more after the changes done, kind of messy logic around calc. distance ...) (anyone like to do some testing can email me at st-ter@… and I'll send a zip...).
Still need to keep the width of the goal line to less than twice the distance back to the previous turnpoint, ie set "radius" of goal tp to less than distance back to prev. tp.
