#228 new enhancement

Started SS in race competitions

Reported by: Roberto Adinolfi Owned by: Stein Tore Erdal
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: FsComp Version: 1.2.13
Keywords: Cc:

The field "Started SS" in task view should have the first GPS point inside the SS turnpoint after the stargate when the task is race.

FS now shows the last GPS point before leaving the SS turnpoint, but this information is useful only when the task is elapsed time; in a race task it's more useful to know the first point inside the SS after the stargate.

Bob, when is this function needed, what does a scorer try to figure out when looking at those GPS points?

Sometimes track near the start can be quite "messy", for example when pilot fly through the SS cylinder more then once. Suppose this situation: SS time at 14:00; pilot think to have crossed the SS cylinder at 14:10 and then pass again through the SS cyl at 15:30 and 16:00. If pilot made a false start (he actually doesn't cross the SS cyl at 14:10 but he thinks so) the system will consider 15:30 as the first GPS point inside SS Cyl. When pilot will look at the results will complain because he will probabily doesn't have the full task, so score keeper has to analyse track point by point to understand why he has a track that looks good but doen't have the correct points.

If the system will tell the score keeper which is the time of the GPS point considered in the SS Cyl it would be easier to perform this analysis.

OK, thanks for the explanation. I agree, that would be useful. I'm thinking that the best would be to mark that point as well, like the goal point (green, for instance). But also, that we should offer buttons to zoom to those specific points:

  1. start point
  2. point where each turn point cylinder was taken
  3. best distance (if landed out)
  4. point at time when task was stopped (if stopped task)
  5. goal point
  6. landing point

I totally agree with you, it's really useful to mark all those points to make analysis faster.
