#276 new defect

Minimum distance no calculated properly

Reported by: matjaz Owned by: Joerg Ewald

We are in the middle of competition now and I noticed that minimum distance is not calculated properly when SS is closer than minimum distance. Any suggestion how to solve this? I have attached tracks and fsdb file - please check the pilots number 45 in 57. There are others with this error as well.

Hello Matjaz

You uncovered one of FS' dirty little secrets: FS does not really know about exit or entry start cylinders. The way it works: If the first cylinder after SSS is around the same point as SSS, it sees that this must be an entry start. If the first cylinder is around a different point than SSS, it automatically uses an exit start. And this is what happened in your case: SSS is a big cylinder around NNS126, and then the next cylinder is a small one around LKN083. So FS assumes an exit start cylinder. But because LKN083 lies inside of the big SSS cylinder, this gets a bit confusing.

So basically the scoring is wrong for most pilots, I think.

The best way to fix this task: Re-define the first turnpoint after SSS. Make it around NNS126, but with a radius that is big enough to just include the 400m cylinder around LKN083. This will result in FS using an entry start, and giving everybody the correct distance.

In a future version of FS, we will try to make this more obvious.
