Description

Hi! A question from the "Norwegian League" (FAI2) scorer: Is there a way in FS to make league-result, in a less complex way than the new "FTV"-function?(§15) See the attached .fsdb file. I have 6 valid tasks, and I just wont to "zero"(make a strike-trough) the two worst numbers for each participant. We use this simple rule in our leauge, not the complex one that you have implemented in "FTV". Can You make this "Simple-FTV-button" in next version of FS ? Thanks in advance, and best regards, Hans-Cato Grytnes (leader of the Norwegian Competition Comittee (www.KKPGxc.no )

Hello

Currently the only options in FS are:

  1. Count all tasks fully
  2. Do discards using FTV

We're currently not able to implement special wishes outside of the official CIVL rules - too much work already. But if somebody else would like to implement it, they are certainly welcome.

I do have to question this kind of scoring, though. In your case, striking out the two worst results would be very unfair to the people who did well in the first two tasks. Everybody would discard task 5, of course, but even the winner of task 1 may have to discard task 1. You can't mix GAP (with varying day validities) and a simple "drop the worst n tasks" schemes, that does not work. Hence FTV...

Thank you for the answer! (and sorry for my late reply to it! ) I just wish to add a comment about what you think is "unfair" in our league-rules: There's some "politics" behind this rule. We want this league to have a "low threshold". Friendly for "newbees". The pilots in Norway are widely spread; Some have to drive for days to get to a comp...So we try to set up enough comps across the country, and hope that the weathergods will give us some good days. ( and sometimes they do! :-) If the weatherpredictions 36h ahead of a comp looks doomed; we cancel the whole thing. But we also want the pilots to look into the forecasts themselves to make up their own opinion if they want to take the (long?)travel. Some will use Facebook to "talk up" or "down" a comp. So a part of the game is to predict the weather (or the quality) of a upcoming comp, and do well in the comps that become popular and give tasks of best quality. ( The winner of this "game" can save a lot of gasoline, and still win the league ) There is also another aspect of this: Our league is not run by ONE professional(or paid) staff. We have a small commity (KKPGxc.no) that are providing a common set of rules and tools for local clubs that want to arrange a comp. We wish that as many as possible of our clubs give us a 'bid' before the season, and we want the best organizers, and the flying-sites to "survive", with the best results. Darwin rules !
